Foot drop (or drop foot) is when you find it difficult to lift or move your foot and toes. The most common cause is an injury to a nerve in your leg, which controls the muscles required to lift the foot. This is generally a result of the following:

• Sports injury
• Slipped disc in the spine
• Nerve issues (peripheral neuropathy) due to diabetes
• Hip or knee surgery
• Lack of movement (e.g. in bedbound patients)
