What Do the Different Colours Represent?
The seven different colours of TheraBand represent seven different resistance levels. Please see the table below find out what strength each colour signifies.
Colour and Resistance | Resistance at 100% Elongation | Resistance Increase |
Yellow - Light | 1.3kg/3lb | 25% |
Red - Medium | 1.7kg/3.7lb | 25% |
Green - Heavy | 2.1kg/4.6lb | 25% |
Blue - Extra Heavy | 2.6kg/5.8lb | 25% |
Black - Special Heavy | 3.3kg/7.3lb | 25% |
Silver - Super Heavy | 4.6kg/10.2lb | 40% |
Gold - Maximum | 6.5kg/14.2lb | 40% |
What Does 100% Elongation Mean?
The strength classifications of TheraBands are graded by their resistance at 100% Elongation. By 100% elongation, we mean when a length of band has been stretched to twice its original measurement.
This applies to any length of measurement you cut from the roll. For example, if you cut a 100cm length of TheraBand, 100% elongation would be when the strip of fabric is stretched to 200cm.
Easily Track Progress with Different Band Colours
The colour-coded resistance spectrum makes it easy to track the progression of you or a patient. The colours represent different resistance levels as seen above, so simply move up a colour level when an incremental increase is desired.
What Can the Resistance Bands Be Used For?
With seven different resistance levels, a clear progression system and a roll design that allows you to cut exactly how long a piece is needed, TheraBand Resistance Bands are hugely versatile. They're great for a variety of training scenarios, including but not limited to:
- Increasing strength
- Increasing flexibility

Fantastic for Rehab
The progression system used by Theraband makes them a natural choice for professional or home rehabilitation. It allows you to build your strength back gradually over time, even when recovering from a serious injury.
If you start with a lower resistance level like the Tan (Super Light) band, the chances of reinjury or aggravating your injury are much lower.

Take Bodyweight Exercise to the Next Level
Lifting heavy weights isn't for everyone, with some people just preferring bodyweight exercises. Unfortunately, other than simply raising the amount of reps, resistance training can be limiting.
Adding TheraBand Resistance Bands to bodyweight exercises can help mix things up a bit by raising the difficulty, building your fitness and improving your strength levels gradually. But because of how lightweight and compact they are, you can still exercise at home or outside.
Completely Latex-Free
While many latex-free resistance bands offer reduced performance compared with their latex counterparts, the TheraBand latex-free bands don't. This enables patients with latex allergies and latex-free facilities to fully reap the benefits provided by TheraBand resistance bands.
